Third Party Protection
Unfortunately, it is sometimes necessary to terminate service to customers for non–payment of past due bills. These customers are always sent written notification well before the date service is to be cut off.

When you are on the Third Party Protection Plan, and you receive a termination of service notice — we mail a copy of the notice to the third party you designate. This third party can be anyone you know — a relative, friend, clergyman, social agency, civic organization — any person you choose.

Special Assistance Fund for Energy (SAFE)

HELP your neighbors in need ... by donating to SAFE the Special Assistance Fund for Energy. SAFE distributes your gift through social service agencies to help needy families and individuals pay their energy bills. Donations are matched up to $100,000. Last year, Sierra Pacific customers and employees gave just a few dollars each to help hundreds of needy people. You can help by pledging a dollar amount to be automatically added to your monthly Sierra Pacific payment, or by adding your gift to one month's payment only. For more information call: 775-834-4003.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP aka LIHEAP)

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides an annual energy bill payment on behalf of the eligible applicant. The amount of this payment is calculated based on the household size, household income and the amount of the energy bill in relation to the household size and income. Contact the Department of Community Services and Development at (866) 675-6623 for more information.

Medical Baseline Allowance

This program provides an increase in the baseline allowance, the amount of energy that is charged at the lowest possible rate. If someone in a household has multiple sclerosis, a life-threatening illness, is a paraplegic, quadriplegic, or requires regular use of life-support equipment, they may qualify for this additional allowance of electricity at the lower rate. Both the customer and their doctor must complete a Medical Baseline Application. To learn more, contact your local Sierra Pacific office in North Lake Tahoe, (800) 782-2506 or for all other California locations, (800) 782-2506.

Nevada

Nevada Energy Connection:

The State of Nevada administers both direct energy assistance and weatherization assistance to help low-income households with their energy costs. These programs are funded by both federal dollars and money collected from all utility customers on behalf of the State through the Universal Energy Charge (UEC).

Energy Assistance Program (EAP)

The program, administered by the Welfare Division, begins July 1 and applications are accepted through June 30, or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first. Eligible households are awarded assistance once each program year. The assistance is based on the household’s gross income and annual energy use. However, it is not intended to meet 100% of a household’s expenses. If you would like an application, you may print one from the Nevada Energy Connection website or contact one the various intake sites also listed on the website. You may also request an application through the Carson City EAP office at (775) 684-0731 or you may call toll-free at (866) 846-2009.

Weatherization Assistance

This program, administered by the Housing Division of the Nevada Department of Business and Industry (NHD), helps low-income persons to reduce their energy costs by installing various energy conservation measures. Anyone interested in receiving weatherization services may apply at one of the locations listed below. For more information call NHD at (775) 687-2037 or toll-free at (800) 227-4960 ext. 232.
